Report Water Outage

(770) 278-7500

An activated spillway occurs when water levels rise and begin flowing over or through the spillway. This is a designed safety feature, not a failure. It safely releases excess water during heavy rainfall or high inflow events. Spillway activation is protection, not the problem. It is how a dam protects itself, manages water levels, and reduces downstream risk. The Rockdale Water Resources Water Supply Division has a proactive responsibility to ensure the system is always ready. Because a spillway is only as reliable as its condition, routine inspections and maintenance are critical to keep it clear and functioning properly, identify erosion or structural concerns early, ensure it can handle high flow events, and maintain dam safety compliance. While it can be a beautiful sight, conditions around the dam can change quickly and may present safety risks due to fast moving water and slippery surfaces. The reservoir and dam are restricted areas for a reason, and those measures are in place to protect both the public, our water supply and critical infrastructure.
