Maria Flint, Utility Education Specialist with Rockdale Water Resources, was honored to be invited by Rockdale County Public Schools (RCPS) to serve as a presenter during the district’s Professional Learning (PL) Day on July 30, 2026, at Heritage High School.
A Professional Learning (PL) Day is a dedicated training day for educators that provides opportunities to expand their knowledge, develop new instructional strategies, and gain resources they can take back to their classrooms to enhance student learning.
Maria’s presentation, “All You Need to Know for a Successful Model Water Tower,” equipped middle school teachers with the tools, techniques, and best practices needed to successfully guide their students through designing and constructing model water towers for the 2027 Model Water Tower Competition.
During the interactive session, teachers learned about the engineering principles behind water tower design, competition expectations, construction tips, and ways to encourage teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving among their students. The goal of the training was to ensure that every participating teacher felt confident returning to the classroom and preparing students for a successful competition experience.
The 2027 competition marks the fourth consecutive year that Maria Flint and Rockdale Water Resources have partnered to host this exciting educational event. The annual Model Water Tower Competition continues to inspire middle school students to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while gaining a better understanding of how public water systems operate and why water infrastructure is so important to our communities.
