Lab Analyst Jarisha Binion is shown preparing a 6N hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution from commercially concentrated hydrochloric acid. This process is performed inside a certified chemical fume hood while wearing the required personal protective equipment (PPE), including a lab coat, safety goggles, and chemical-resistant gloves, to ensure safe handling of corrosive chemicals.

During preparation, proper laboratory safety protocols are followed by adding acid to water, a critical dilution practice that helps prevent excessive heat buildup and potential splashing.

The prepared acid solution is used for several important laboratory applications, including cleaning and descaling laboratory equipment, acid digestion processes, pH adjustment in analytical procedures, standard methods testing, and the preservation of samples for metals analysis.
