The EPA UCMR 5 sampling program began in January 2025, with samples collected quarterly for one year. Finished water is analyzed for PFOS and Lithium. PFOA, or perfluorooctanoic acid, is a human-made chemical that belongs to the PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) family. PFAS is a group of man-made chemicals used in various products due to their ability to repel water, grease, and stains. These “forever chemicals” are persistent in the environment and can accumulate in living organisms, raising concerns about potential health and environmental impacts.
