Report Water Outage

(770) 278-7500

Severe storms and heavy rainfall can significantly affect reservoirs, streamflow, and dam operations. At Rockdale County Water Resources (RWR), the Water Supply Division works year‑round to safeguard Jack Turner Dam, a key part of Rockdale County’s drinking water supply.

How Is the Dam Protected?

Jack Turner Dam includes multiple safety features, such as a reinforced concrete gravity structure, six crest gates, controlled water outlets, drainage systems, and monitoring instrumentation. Together with routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and established emergency preparedness procedures, these safeguards help ensure the dam’s continued safety and reliability.

What Does Water Supply Do During Storms?

Before, during, and after storms, Water Supply personnel monitor rainfall, reservoir levels, streamflow, and water quality. Staff also inspect infrastructure for erosion, debris, and other unusual conditions, evaluate water releases, coordinate necessary maintenance, and communicate with the appropriate agencies when needed.

Why Does It Matter?

Proactive monitoring and maintenance help protect critical infrastructure, support downstream safety, and maintain a reliable drinking water supply.

How Can Residents Help?

Stay weather-aware, avoid flooded roads and fast-moving waterways, and report unusual flooding or erosion to local authorities.

At RWR, storm preparedness goes beyond the forecast. We’re protecting our water supply today while building a more resilient community for tomorrow.
