Source water is the untreated water that comes from rivers, lakes, streams, or groundwater — and it’s the starting point for our drinking water supply. Before it reaches our homes and businesses, it goes through a comprehensive treatment process to ensure it is safe, clean, and reliable.

Here in Rockdale County, the Jack Turner Dam serves as our primary source of water. Built in 1996, this Category I dam created the reservoir that supports our community’s growing water demands.

The reservoir operates at a normal pool elevation of approximately 735 feet and plays a vital role in:

  • Maintaining minimum flows in Big Haynes Creek

  • Supporting long-term water supply reliability

  • Providing water security for our residents and businesses

🌎 How You Can Help Protect Our Water

Preventing litter, reducing pollution, and limiting harmful stormwater runoff all help safeguard the quality of our drinking water. What enters our creeks and streams can eventually make its way to our reservoir.

Every small action — properly disposing of trash, avoiding dumping, reducing fertilizer use, and keeping storm drains clear — helps preserve this essential resource for generations to come.

💙 Protect the source. Protect our future.
