💧 Understanding the EPA UCMR 5 Sampling Program
The EPA’s Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 5) sampling program began in January 2025, with samples collected quarterly for one year. As part of this effort, Rockdale Water Resources (RWR) is analyzing finished water for the presence of PFOS and lithium.
PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) is one of several human-made chemicals in the PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) family. PFAS are commonly known as “forever chemicals” because they are persistent in the environment and can accumulate in living organisms.
These substances have been widely used in products that repel water, grease, and stains, but growing awareness of their potential health and environmental impacts has led to increased monitoring and regulation.
Through participation in the UCMR 5 program, RWR continues its commitment to protecting public health and ensuring safe, high-quality drinking water for the Rockdale County community.
